How often is a periodic electrical inspection required?

All electrical installations deteriorate over time, due to expansion and contracting caused by cyclic heating and cooling on circuit wiring, mainly due to the threads on screw connections which relax and lose friction; this leads to escalation of high resistances and possible overheating, particularly on power circuits such as electric cookers, immersion heaters and 13A ring mains. It is recommended that they should be inspected and tested every: –

See a video on You Tube for an inspection report by NICEIC personnel, although this is to the previous  Amendment 1 of BS 7671, not the current Amendment 3 at 2016: Condition Reporting of an Electrical Installation For examples of codes applied during an Electrical Installation Condition Report, see here: EICR Code Examples LiteCor Electrical can also give a competitive quote for any necessary repairs.

Portable Appliance Testing, aka “PAT Testing” – click here for info.: – Portable Appliance Testing aka PAT Testing Note that it is a fallacy to have PAT testing carried out annually. The periods between inspections will vary, dependent on the exposure of appliances to damage, e.g. electrical appliances in a commercial kitchen, will require a very different approach to those in an office environment. Call 07943 179 505 if you need an emergency electrician, to get a free quote for an electrician to work in your property, or get an electrical inspection report from an NICEIC registered contractor.

An optional Visual Condition Report (VCR) is a lower cost option for an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), but is often abused by landlords, estate agents and letting agents, since little testing is carried out, but should only be carried out if an Electrical Condition Inspection Report, has been carried out within the preceding 2 years, and there has been no change of tenancy.
